Alice

In December of 2020, my four-year-old daughter Alice was diagnosed with a stage 2 Wilms tumor on her left kidney. The prognosis was good from the beginning, but the fact remained that my baby had cancer. Plans for Christmas parties at preschool, gingerbread house building with cousins, and visits from grandparents were abruptly replaced with the reality of months of grueling radiation and chemotherapy. Just like that, we were tumbling down the rabbit hole with no idea of what to expect. On the night our pediatrician called to say that Alice’s ultrasound indicated we should make our way to the children’s hospital, I hugged my girls, packed our bags, and grabbed my camera. This is the story I documented over eight months of treatment.
